Countess of Wessex visits Bangladeshi eye hospitals

Sophie , Countess of Wessex, has come on a solo trip to Bangladesh to visit Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital in the capital.


She unveiled a plaque commemorating her visit to the hospital.

Sophie also called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday.

Orbis international is an international non-profit non-government organisation dedicated to saving sight worldwide. It has the world’s only flying hospital providing medical checkups and training sessions onboard.
Sophie also visited BarishalSadar Hospital and Chittagong Eye Infirmary Hospital on her trip.

Previously, in 2008, she visited Bangladesh with sight-saving charity ORBIS.


She previously explained how her daughter Lousie’s sight problems inspired her to campaign for the visually impaired.
