“Rape allegations false, was in Sri Lanka then”

Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on Friday claimed that the rape allegations against him were "outright lie" as he was in Sri Lanka at the time, a day after he was grilled by police in Mumbai for a good eight hours in connection with the seven-year-old case.

The rape case was filed by the Mumbai police last week after a little-known Bollywood actress alleged that Kashyap had forced himself on her in his house way back in August 2013, reports UNB.

However, in a statement, the Bollywood filmmaker's lawyer Priyanka Khimani said, "Kashyap has provided documentary proof of the fact that throughout August, 2013 he was away in Sri Lanka in connection with the shooting of one of his films."

In the statement, the filmmaker has also sought severe action against the actress for "misusing" the criminal justice system and for "hijacking the MeToo Movement for her ulterior motives".

In fact, the filmmaker was called to the police station on Thursday after the actress recently met Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari, along with Indian Minister Ramdas Athawale, and demanded Kashyap's immediate arrest in the case.

On September 19, the actress had tweeted: "Mr Kashyap has forced himself on me and extremely badly. Narendra Modiji kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Pls help!"

The filmmaker had denied the allegations earlier too.

"These allegations are completely false, malicious and dishonest. It is sad that a social movement as important as #metoo movement has been co-opted by vested interests and reduced to a mere tool for character assassination," his lawyer had said.

Many Bollywood bigwigs have supported Kashyap, including his ex-wives Kalki Koechlin and Aarti Bajaj.
