Momena’s ‘Lal Jamin’ to be staged at  educational institutions

Lal Jamin, the solo theatre performance by renowned artist Momena Chowdhury, will now be staged at different educational institutions in the country as the education ministry has given permission in staging the show on freedom among young generation.

Shunnon Repertory Theatre has already staged the Lal Jamin, its first production, in all district level in the country with the assistance of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

Disclosing these at a press conference in the city on Wednesday Shunnon President and freedom fighter Professor Ziaul Hasan Kislu said with the approval from the education ministry to stage Lal Jamin at school-college level, the government has allowed them of making the next generation aware of the real history of freedom fighting.

He also said it will also help revive the culture of staging drama or theatre under educational institutions’ curriculum activities.

Momena Chowdhury also highlighted her experiences in the performance and said they have already started contacting different schools and colleges with necessary information and documents to inspire them in arranging the shows.

She said Dhaka Eden College has already responded positively.

Starting from 2011, the ‘Lal Jamin’ written by noted dramatist Mannan Hira and directed by teacher of Theatre and Performance Department of Dhaka University Dr Sudip Chakrabarti has been staged total 305 shows in home and abroad including in district amd upazila levels, police lines, some colleges and universities.

It was also staged in London, USA, Canada, South Korea and India.

The education ministry directed the Director General of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Directorate about staging the drama on September 18 upon application from the Sunnon Theatre.
