An initiative has been launched to promote local culture through Bangla pantomime.
Bangla Mime (Pantomime) Research Centre (BMRC) with the slogan of Bangla Mime, the identity of Bangla nationhood, embarked on the programme at a press conference at Sagar-Runi auditorium in Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) of the city on Wednesday.
BMRC Director General Quazi Moshoorul Huda said there was tremendous possibility to disseminate the country's culture and heritage through Bangla pantomime in the country and across the globe. Besides, the venture will help boost identity of Bangla mime across the globe, he added.
He said further they will soon start visiting different parts of the country aiming to promote Bangla mime.
Secretary of BMRC Rezwan Razan said Bangla culture like Sangjatra, Jatra, Ghambira, Alcap and Chounatch could be displayed through Bangla mime.
Bangla mime will help introduce Bangladesh to the world in a new form, he added.
Besides, Bangla mime will build bridge between the people of different languages of the world through overcoming linguistic barriers, he observed.
He said the initiative will help Bangla mime get a boost locally and internationally through reflecting the country's century-old rich culture, heritage and history.
Thanking BMRC for initiating the move to promote the local culture, renowned theatre activist and former director general of Bangladesh Television M Hamid expressed the hope that Bangla pantomime will this way become popular in near future.
