Aga Khan's Diamond Jubilee Celebration held

A 'Jubilee Concert' was held in Dhaka recently featuring two of India's most respected and globally renowned artists and composers - Salim and Sulaiman Merchant.

The concert was part of a series of commemorative events organised around the world to mark the 60th anniversary - the Diamond Jubilee - of Aga Khan's accession to the Ismaili Imamat, said a press release on Thursday.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor attended the event as the chief guest and congratulated Aga Khan on the occasion of his Diamond Jubilee and conveyed his appreciation for the efforts of Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Bangladesh and globally.

Today, Salim and Sulaiman Merchant are among the world's most respected composers, having scored for more than one-hundred Indian films and over twenty TV shows composing numerous records incorporating cinematic, folk, electronica and sufi influences to their music.

The Merchant brother duo has enthralled audiences across the world with their live concerts including, performing at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2010.

The 'Jubilee Concerts' is a Diamond Jubilee initiative involving high profile professional artists of an international stature, performing globally in prestigious venues.

The concerts are organised to expose the audience to a wide genre of music, allowing them to appreciate various forms of music in an entertaining manner, reports UNB.

The Jubilee Concert at the Bashundhara Convention Centre was attended by nearly 2,000 guests including, government officials, diplomats, business and civic leaders, and members of the Ismaili and other surrounding communities.
