UGC to take steps for global ranking

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will take necessary measures to ensure quality higher education at the university level and to secure a strong position in the global ranking.

UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah said  National Research Council, Central Research Laboratory and University Teacher Training Academy will be established in the country to this effect.

These initiatives are being emphasised in the ‘Strategic Plan for Higher Education 2018-2030’ and these institutions can play an effective role in ensuring the quality of education and availing a strong position in the global ranking, he added.

Necessary tasks are underway to determine the structure and nature of these institutions, he mentioned.

The UGC chairman made the remarks while addressing the first meeting of the 21-member committee on the implementation of the ‘Strategic Plan for Higher Education’ virtually on Monday.

“Accreditation Council has already been established and National Qualification Framework has also been formulated,” the UGC chairman further said adding that various courses and lab accredited activities at university level have been undertaken.

He sought hope and cooperation from the concerned authorities and institutions.

UGC members and vice-chancellors of different universities were present at the virtual event.
