Tech enthusiasts throng campus

Teachers, students and alumni of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, taking part in a rally on EEE Day 2019

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), in association with EEE Makers Hub, successfully hosted EEE Day 2019 from September 12 to 14, where a sum of nearly 500 students from over 30 universities and 23 schools and colleges participated.

The programme comprised three major segments: Alumni Talks, the Tech Fiesta 3.0 and the EEE Night. This event was designed to be a hub of tech-enthusiasts and engineers. Many successful alumni of the Department of EEE, KUET joined in and had conversation with the current students and faculty members through the platform of Alumni Talks. The segment had ample opportunity for networking.

A flamboyant grand rally by the alumni, teachers and students marked the dawn of Tech Fiesta on September 13 morning. All current students of the Department of EEE were directly associated with the organising committee, besides volunteering for the entire event, and worked to make this event successful.

Several teachers acted as the judges of the several segments of Tech Fiesta, which was its third season since 2012. The segments were Battle of Bots, Gaming Contest, LFR competition, Project Showcasing, Poster Presentation, MATLAB Mania and IT Quiz.

The social media flooded with videos from the Battle of Bots, which was clearly the centre of attraction of the event, and consisted of a total prize money of Tk 80,000, which was bagged by the team Algos_USTC from the University of Science and Technology Chittagong, and team Apocryphal from United International University.

A sum of Tk 65,000 was designated for Line Follower Robot competition, where team DUET Positron won the first place, and teams Mecha-Ingenious-SUST and SUST_Cracker_Nut won the second and third place respectively. Team Invention Addicted from the University of Rajshahi won the Project Showcasing competition, while teams Shadow and Prototypes, both from KUET, won the second and third places, with a total prize money of Taka 30,000. Three teams from KUET, named Hawk Insights, Error 404 and Implacable won the top three prizes of Poster Presentation, that amounted to Tk 20,000.

Mushfikur Rahman from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), and Ahmed Nazir and Md Akramul Hossain from KUET topped MATLAB Mania, winning a total of Tk 15,000. Pranta Sarkar, Rezwanul Haque Dipu and Muhaimin-Al-Barat won FIFA 19, getting a total of Tk 10,000. Rabius Sunny Rizon from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Shakil Ahmed from Mangrove Institute of Science and Technology, and Md Waliul Islam and Md Mahmudul Islam from KUET won NFS: MW and a sum of Tk 10,000. Md Siwom Chowdhury from Dhaka Residential Model College, Md Tanvir Anjum Zenith from Notre Dame College and Mehedi Hasan Mashuk held the top three places of Rubik's Cube, winning a sum of Tk 10,000.

In the IT Quiz, Faiyaz Kabir from Khulna Zilla School, Md Muaz Rahman from Khulna Public College and Md Rahidul Islam from KUET were the champions at school, college and university levels respectively.

Meghna Petroleum Limited was the title sponsor and Iconic Engineering Limited was the co-title sponsor. Several other companies, such as Energypac, West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited, Khulna Power Company Limited, Seven Rings Cement, Polar Ice-cream, Nescafe, etc. were among the other sponsors.

The EEE Night was also a superhit among the guests and participants. The three-day-long event was packed with fun, excitement and breathtaking experiences. Professor Dr Md Shahjahan of the Department of EEE, KUET and the convener of EEE Day 2019 said, "The event is like the Eid of tech-enthusiasts, and we intend to organise this every year from now onwards."

The closing ceremony and the prize distribution of the event were held with a promise for Tech Fiesta 4.0 next year.
