Stamford signs MoU with Chinese univ

Stamford University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lanzhou Jiaotong University, in collaboration with Bangladesh China Institute of Technology (BCIT), to start a 4-year undergraduate Power Engineering degree in the country.

President of Lanzhou Jiaotong University of China Yang Zijiang and Vice Chancellor of Stamford University Prof Mohammad Ali Naqi inked the MoU on behalf of their respective sides in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The authorities of both the universities agreed to initiate the undergraduate degree at Stamford University in an aim to create international standard engineers for fast growing power sector of Bangladesh, according to a news statement.

Under the course, the students will study two years at the Stamford University, Dhaka and last two years at Lanzhou Jiaotong University of China’s Gansu province for acquiring first hand practical training with modern lab facilities.

A seven-member Chinese delegation led by Deputy Director General, Foreign Affairs Office of Gansu Province of China Yang Yonggang, BCIT Chairman Masum M Moshin, Managing Director Charlie Cha and Director Probir Kumar Barua were also present at the signing ceremony.

The power engineering course following Chinese curriculum will be started at Stamford University from January next year with several numbers of Chinese professors.

The BCIT is also offering full scholarship to Bangladeshi students for undertaking various undergraduate courses in different China universities every year.
