Rajshahi University to admit record number of foreign students in 2018-19 academic session

Ever highest number of foreign students have got the chance of admission in first year honours classes in the current 2018-19 academic session of Rajshahi University (RU).

RU administration has given approval of admission to 17 students in the current season. Earlier, 14 students got admitted in 2016-17 and 2017-18 sessions, said Prof Abdul Bari, registrar of RU.

He added that 17 foreign students were given approval for admission during the current season. Thirteen from Nepal and four from Somalia got the chance.

Of the Nepalese, four students in Department of Crop Science and Technology, six in Department of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, two in Department of Pharmacy and one in Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

On the other hand, students coming from Somalia will get chance for admission in four departments like Computer Science and Engineering, Information Science and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Geology and Mining.

Prof Bari said two foreign students got admitted in Folklore Department for the first time in 1999-2000 academic session. One of them left the campus before completion of his course. Since then, no students from abroad applied for admission for long 13 years.

After some gap, two students got admitted in 2014-15 and three in 2015-16 academic sessions. After that, 14 students got admitted each in 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic sessions, reports BSS.

RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan said new dimension has been opened up in academic and research activities in the university. Massive infrastructural development has been attained. New accommodation arrangement has been ensured for the foreign students.

International standard Meer Abdul Kayum Dormitory is for the students and researchers coming from abroad. “We hope the number of foreign students will increase in the university in the years to come,” he added.
