Professionals share insights on financial sector’s role

The Chittagong University (CU) Bureau of Business Research (BBR) from business faculty, has arranged a webinar on December 23, 2020 with the theme- "COVID-19 Impact and Business Stabilisation: The Role of Financial Sector," which is the second webinar of the series titled "Impact of COVID-19 on Business: The Bangladesh Perspective."

Vice-chancellor of CU Dr Shireen Akhter and Dean of Business Faculty Professor SM Salamatullah Bhuiyan joined the event as the chief guest and special guest respectively. 

Professor Prashanta Kumar Banerjee and Professor Md Mohiuddin Siddique from Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) presented the keynote discussion. Besides, Dr Md Habibur Rahman, executive director (Research) of Bangladesh Bank, delivered the expert opinion as a discussant.

Professor Dr Md Salim Uddin, chairman of BBR presided over the webinar while professor Dr Sohrab Uddin, director of BBR moderated the session.

At the beginning, Dr Prashanta Kumar Banerjee talked about some issues regarding Bangladesh's COVID-19 effects and economic position among theregional countries.

After that, Dr Md Habibur Rahman, delivered his presentation. His lecture covered insights of global economic, growth performance, government incentive packages, Bangladesh Bank's key initiatives, macroeconomic consolidation, etc. At the end, Professor Dr Md Salim Uddin delivered the concluding speech.

"Reserve has reached the peak with the highest flow of remittance. Constrictions of the ongoing mega project are also going smoothly despite the pandemic. I want to thank the government as all of this has been possible because of our prime minister's dynamic leadership,” said the VC Ms Shireen. She also recommended that workshop, seminar, conference, round table, discussion, webinar, and other discussions should go on to stabilise the business while dealing with the new normal.

The special guest of the webinar, Professor SM Salamatullah Bhuiyan added, "COVID-19 is causing significant operational disruption in many companies. Companies now need to plan short term objectives while keeping an eye on long term performance."
