East West University (EWU) Economics Club launched its first-ever national contest under the banner ‘NatEcon 2021’ on Jan 1.

The event brought creative individuals from all over the country under one roof and provided them with an opportunity to showcase their talent, said a statement.

The NatEcon 2021 was comprised of four segments: start-up idea generation, ‘Brainmatrix’ quiz competition, ‘Capturonomics’ photography contest and poster presentation.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, the contest was held online.

The competition started officially on Jan 21 with the start-up idea generation workshop and ended on Feb 5 with the prize-giving ceremony.

Participants from more than 20 districts took part in the four segments.

Teams from 14 universities and two colleges competed in the start-up idea generation segment. Experts judged the four segments separately.

The champion team from the start-up idea generation segment got an opportunity to do a paid internship at the Data Resource BD.

Winners from other segments were awarded prizes and received certificates.

Besides, every participant got a certificate for taking part in the event.

Noted economist Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud was present as the chief guest in the event, while chief advisor to the East West University Dr Mohammed Farashuddin was present as the special guest.

Dr Enamul Haque was the guest of honour at the event, the statement adds.
