Netrokona gets public university

The government is going to set up an university in Netrokona district after the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid placed the bill; titled Sheikh Hasina University Bill, 2017; in the parliament on Tuesday.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was in the chair.

Placing the bill, Nahid told the parliament that establishment the university is very much necessary and rational for transforming the country into developed one.

It will create new entrepreneurs, enhance employment in the information technology sector at home and abroad through business incubators of the university.

"The university will help advance the education, research, training and extension programme at graduate and post-graduate level on different affairs of the higher education," he added.

Later, the Education Minister proposed the house to send the bill to the parliamentary standing committee on Education Ministry for providing its report after further scrutiny for 45 days.

According to the bill, the Education ministry will take an initiative to establish an university at the district in light with the announcement made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
