JU cuts Eid and Summer holidays to deal with session jam

Jahangirnagar University (JU) has decided to cut Ramadan, Eid and Summer holidays by 14 days to deal with the academic losses.

Due to the closure of the campus amid Covid for a long time, the session jam has taken a chronic shape. So the university authority has decided to start the vacation on April 24 instead of prescheduled April 10. The office and Halls will open on May 15 as scheduled in the academic calendar.

The decision was taken at a special syndicate meeting of the university on Tuesday (April 5) at 2 pm, confirmed Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Nurul Alam, who is in charge of the Vice-Chancellor's routine duties.

This was the first syndicate meeting after the routine assignment of Professor Nurul Alam.

In this concern, Professor Nurul Alam said to the reporter, "Since we have not been able to take in-person classes for a long time, the pre-arranged leave has been postponed from 10th to 24th considering the betterment of students. The office and halls will open on prescheduled May 15, but classes will remain closed on Buddha Purnima."

In the academic calendar of the university, a total of 36 days of vacation from 1st April to May 15 for Ramadan, Pahela Boishakh (Bengali New Year), Shab-e-Qadr, Jumatul Bida, May Day, Eid-ul-Fitr, Summer Holidays and Buddhist full moon were included.

However, in order to make up for the academic loss of Corona, it has been decided to reduce the number of days and keep the university open till April 23.
