IUB holds conference on Fourth Industrial Revolution

A Matin Chowdhury, chairman of the board of trustees of IUB, delivered the inaugural speech at a programme titled ‘Social Science in the 21st Century: Survival Strategy for Human Kind Addressing IR 4.0’ on the university campus recently

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) held a day-long conference on the Fourth Industrial Revolution on its campus recently.   

The  programme titled ‘Social Science in the 21st Century: Survival Strategy for Human Kind Addressing IR 4.0’ was organised by the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS). 

Experts at the event highlighted that the 21st century is witnessing fourth wave of industrial revolution or IR 4.0, and the main concern of IR 4.0 is to create autonomous decision making procedure of cyber physical system via cloud technology. 

Chairman of IUB’s board of trustees Mr A Matin Chowdhury delivered speech on the occasion. 

CEO of Asian Tigers Ifty Islam gave a presentation on ‘Challenges and Opportunities from the Fourth Industrial Revolution’ at the programme. 

He said artificial intelligence might replace human labour with automated services, adding it has been a debate in the 21st century how creativity endeavors, social interaction and physical dexterity and mobility can be replaced with data information technology. 

Khandker Md Iftekhar Haider, treasurer and acting vice chancellor, and Dr Imtiaz A. Hussain, acting dean of SLASS, IUB also spoke on the occasion. 

Four working and a plenary session took place at the programme. Renowned educationist, scholars, policymakers, civil society leaders, media experts and specialists took part in paper presentation and discussions on various topics.
