Independent University, Bangladesh Debating Club (IUBDC) is back with its latest edition of IUB Ascension 2018 - where Ideas Soar. After two successful runs at the national level, for the first year at both national and international levels in the second year, ' IUB Ascension 2018 - Where Ideas Soar ', a well-known flagship event of IUBDC has become immensely popular amongst the undergraduates and also school students as a super competitive debate tournament in the past few years.
Having made its name in the debate competition arena, IUB Ascension continues to grow bigger and better by each passing year, providing a competitive platform to undergraduates and schools students. Since its inception, the competition has created a hype of competence among the students with its electrifying debates and amazing motions set by the core adjudication panel of the tournament.
Last year, 84 teams had participated in the tournament consisting of both national and international teams from Malaysia, Singapore, India, Nepal etc. This year the team count has reached to 124 teams. Every year the tournament comes with a theme, for example, fantasy in the first edition and magic in the second, organisers have now come up with a new idea of a Sci-Fi theme this year. Last year the students were awarded with the scholarship of Vice Chancellor category by the authority of Independent University, Bangladesh. It was awarded to the winners of the high school champions. In addition, prize money was to the runners-up of all categories such as high school, university and novice teams.
The adjudication core sets the motions which is given at the debates with their pool of ideas and topics they feel will result in good debates. The adjudication core panel consists of excellent judges who have accomplished numerous accolades from all over the world. The motions they set vary on the topics that are important reflecting the different issues in the local and global scenario. For example, politics, feminism, economics, international relations etc., which are then, divided into subdivisions, for instance, politics happening under immigration policy, etc. Each of these different ideas is then combined and thus then discussed whether it is relevant and balanced and that there is sufficient depth to the discussion which is accessible to the average debater.
IUB Ascension has always exemplified the knowledge of the students, and with the help of the experience and international talents, it makes the experience even better for them. They are exposed to a high-quality international debate arena, which lets them gain experience and learn from the best debaters. They will have a better understanding of the current affairs and able to acquire different perspectives.
Starting from September 20 until the 22nd, the tournament will be held at its campus premises. The hype of the tournament has already reached out to all the students everywhere. Independent University, Bangladesh Debating Club (IUBDC) is buckling up to host an even more exciting event this year.
