IU celebrates 40th university day

The authorities of the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Thursday observed its 40th university day and 39th founding anniversary amid festivity on the campus.

Marking the day, vice chancellor of the university Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari hoisted the national flag while pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman hoisted the university flag in front of the administrative building at around 9:30 am.

Provosts of all residential halls also hoisted the national flag and university flag atop on the premises of their respective halls at around 9:45 am.

Teachers, officials and students of the university brought out a colourful procession, led by VC Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, from the administrative building after releasing pigeons and balloons at around 10 am.

The procession ended at the TSCC auditorium after parading the main roads of campus where different types of banners, festoons and placards were carried out by the participants.

Later, a discussion was held at the Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman central auditorium of the university.

Chaired by IU VC Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid, the discussion was addressed, among others, by pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha and acting registrar S M Abdul Latif.

The discussion was followed by a colourful cultural programme, reports BSS.

The Islamic University started its journey on November 22 in 1979. At present, a total of 12,812 students are studying at the university at 33 departments under 8 faculties. Now, there are 410 teachers and 824 officials at the institution.
