First round for POMAC 3.0 concludes

POMAC 3.0, the flagship event of the BUP Economics Club returned for the third installment on October 15. The inter-university policy-making competition has been unveiled with the purpose of encouraging the youth to work on their problem-solving skills and attract them to the world of policy-making. Moreover, the participants will get a first-hand experience in policy-making. The theme of the event is 'welfare of the masses'. Out of the three rounds of the competition, the first round concluded on October 17.
The first round of the competition took place on October 16 and October 17. The entirety of the first round took place online. The participants were provided with an economic case and their primary goal was to identify the policy flaws and elaborate on them. The participants also had to use real data and peer-reviewed documents to bolster their findings.
The first round was filled with intense pressure and excitement. The judges considered various criteria while determining the top 12 teams from the first round. The novelty of the solutions, precision of data, meticulous approaches to finding the solutions and creativity of the participants were commended by the judges. The pressure of the first round was so intense that after a mass request, BUP Economics Club extended the case submission deadline for six hours.
The top 12 teams from different universities were selected to advance to the next round of the competition. The following round of POMAC 3.0 will happen at the BUP campus. The top 12 teams will be divided into six pairs and they will go head-to-head to advance to the grand finale. The teams will engage in a debate and present rebuttals to their oppositions' points. The judges will determine the winners based on the teams' logic, rebuttals, presentations, and other relevant factors. The grand finale of POMAC 3.0 will take place tentatively on October 25 at the Bijoy Auditorium, BUP.
"BUPEC has been successfully putting in the hours and aiding in the acquisition of economic skills throughout its activities since the beginning. The most prominent of these is POMAC. This year's POMAC 3.0 is presented to you by, BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Ltd and powered by BRAC Bank. Candidates from across the country are eagerly awaiting the outcome of this event. We firmly anticipate seeing POMAC's absolute success this year," shared Raisha Rahman, moderator of the BUP Economics Club.
The President of the club Shahroon Sakibur Rahim also added his thoughts, "BUP Economics Club has been doing tremendously well so far, hosting three top-notch events and finally, the nation's largest policy-making competition, POMAC in the month of October. This year's engagements have all gone rhythmically so far. This flagship event attracted the interest of numerous creative brains. We hope to continue this legacy for years to come."
BUP's commitment towards making the next policy-makers of Bangladesh is commendable. Significant numbers of submissions for the first round came from various universities all over Bangladesh. It can be hoped that the event manages to rekindle the fire of change-making in the hearts of the young minds so that they can make a difference in Bangladesh in the future. The successful completion of POMAC 3.0 seems like the obvious endgame for the event.
