DU celebrates country’s first satellite launching

Dhaka University (DU) has celebrated the launching process of Bangabandhu-1 satellite which started its voyage towards the orbital slot from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, the USA.

DU family enjoyed the launching of the satellite, country's first geostationary communication satellite, on big projection screens at two places on its campus and celebrated the historical moment.

Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, DU Vice-chancellor (VC), Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, president of Dhaka University Teachers' Association, along with provosts of some residential halls, teachers and officials enjoyed the launching on big projection screens at Teachers-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium from 1:45 am.

Students were delighted while watching the launching of the nation's dream satellite, Bangabandhu-1, in the early hours of today on big projection screen at TSC premises, reports BSS.

The historic event of Bangladesh's debut in the space society took place at 2:14 am Bangladesh time.

Falcon 9, the finest rocket of American firm SpaceX, started to carry the satellite to the orbit from the Cape Canaveral launching pad at 4:14 pm US local time.
