35 academics to receive UGC Gold Medal

Thirty five academics will receive 'UGC Gold Medal' on Tuesday for their fundamental research works and publications.

President Abdul Hamid will hand over the medals.

Among them, 18 teachers will be given the award for the year 2016 and 17 teachers for 2017. Each of the selected teachers will get Tk 50,000 for their books and Tk 30,000 for their articles as honorarium along with the certificate and the gold medal, said a press release.

The award giving ceremony will be held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.

University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan will preside over the ceremony while UGC member Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum will deliver the address of welcome.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division, Ministry of Education Sohorab Hossain will be present as the special guests, UNB reported.

Besides, National Professors, UGC members, its secretary, VCs from public and private universities and noted educationists will be also be present.

Earlier in August 2018, UGC changed the name of the UGC Award as UGC Gold Medal.

The Commission introduced UGC Award (now UGC Gold Medal) in 1980 to encourage fundamental research works and publications of university teachers.
