2nd Int’l Mime Festival begins Sunday at DU

A three-day mime festival titled '2nd International Mime Festival 2018' will begin at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday.

The Dhaka University Mime Action (DUMA) will arrange the festival for the second time.

Vice-Chancellor of DU Professor Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, along with the president of World Mime Organisation Marko Stojanovic, will inaugurate the festival.

Director of American New Mime Theater Kaji Moshurul Hooda, Srishti Mime (India), Mu Mime (Germany), Bengal Theatre (Dhaka), Japanese artistes and hosting troupe DUMA will present mime shows on the opening day.

Organisers informed that a rally for creating awareness will be brought out from the TSC with the participation of 400-500 students at 11 am who will dress up like mime actor.

Several mime troupes from Japan, American New Mime Theatre, Serbia, Iran, Germany, Nepal, India and Bangladesh will participate in the three-day festival.

In addition, Swapnadal (Dhaka), Pantomime Movement (Chittagong), Muktomancha Nirbak Dal (Gazipur), Rangon Mime Academy (Jahangirnagar University), Mime Art (Dhaka), Bengal Theatre (Dhaka), Silent theatre (Chittagong), Mirror Mime (Rangpur), Blackfame Theatre (Dhaka), Jagannath University Mime Society and Mime Action Mymensingh will take part from the local troupe groups.

The second edition of the mime festival also includes two-day workshop, seminar, and the poster exhibition on mime and mime contest among the students of schools and colleges.

On the other hand, Street shows will be held on the campus, including Central Shaheed Minar area, Curzon Hall, Arts Faculty and Shahbag while the mime show will be held at the TSC auditorium, reports UNB.

The festival will end on April 10 with an award giving ceremony.
