10 DU students receive Sitara Parvin award

Ten students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday received 'Professor Sitara Parvin Award' for their excellent performances in BSS (honours) examinations in 2017.

The awardees are Md Ragib Rahman, Sanjoy Basak Partha, Farzana Tasnim Pinky, Jakia Jahan Mukta, Md Shamim Hossain, Wahida Zaman Shithi, Siyeduzzaman Shohag, Zinat Sharmin, Dayed Hasan and Durjoy Chakraborty.

Theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar presented the memorial speech titled 'Why theatre' on late Prof Sitara Parvin at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of Social Science Building of the university.

 Speaking at the programme as the chief guest, the VC paid rich tributes to the memories of Prof Sitara Parvin and advised the awardees and all students of the department to follow the honesty, efficiency as well as the ideology of Sitara Parvin, reports UNB.

He also distributed cheques and certificates among the awardees.

 The awards were given by Professor Sitara Parvin Trust Fund.

Prof Sitara Parvin, a teacher of the MCJ department and daughter of former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed, died in a road accident in the USA on June 23, 2005.

Sitara Parvin's husband Dr Ahaduzzaman Muhammad Ali, who was also a professor of the same department, thanked the guests and expressed his best wishes to the awardees as well as all the students of the department.
