The government has proposed to allot Tk 645.80 billion for the development of communication infrastructure in upcoming fiscal year 2020-21.
According to sectoral allocation proposed in the budget for FY 2020-21, Road Transport and Highways Division has been recommended forTk 294.41 billion, Ministry of Railway for Tk 163.26 billion, Bridges Division for Tk 79.80 billion, Civil Aviation and Tourism for Tk 36.88 billion and Shipping Ministry for Tk 40 billion
The allocation is however, Tk 2.41 billion less than the budget allocated for the sector covering road, rail, water and air communication.
“I propose to allocate Tk. 645.80 billion for the communication infrastructure sector in the next FY2020-21, which was Tk. 648.21 billion in the current FY2019-20,” said the Finance Minister in his budget speech.
He said it is important to ensure a modern, safe and environment friendly transportation and communication infrastructure to transform Bangladesh into a developed nation by 2041.
The finance minister said that the government has laid emphasis on creating a coordinated communication network by making a massive investment in the country’s overall communication infrastructure comprising roads, bridges, railways, waterways and airways.
