RANGPUR, Sept 06: Farmers at different areas under the district are getting financially self-reliant through the cultivation of chilli during last few years.
This year the growers have become jubilant to witness a good yield as well as satisfactory profit of the most essential spicy crop, sources said.
Many farmers of the district have been financially benefited by cultivating different varieties of spicy crops including chilli, sources also said.
Due to huge demand, cultivation of the popular crop is on the increase in the district and its neighbouring areas.
Ainul Mia, a farmer of Khansama village under Kawnia Upazila of the district told FE a good number of farmers of his area and his adjacent areas are getting economically solvent by chilli farming. He said he has brought 35 decimals of land under chilli cultivation this year and earned Tk 22,000 profit so far. He is optimistic of more profit from the sale of his produce this season, he also said.
Obaidul, another farmer of Jumakhanpara village under Ranipukur union in Mithapukur upazila said he has cultivated the crop on his 30 decimals of land and is expecting to attain a good yield and higher price of the crop this season. He also expressed satisfaction over its present market price.
The DAE, Rangpur official sources said that the prospect of spicy crops is bright in different areas of the district. The atmosphere, moderate rainfall and soil of the region are also favourable for the farming of different varieties of spicy crops including chilli, turmeric, garlic, onion.
Congenial weather, less production cost and high demand encourage the farmers to cultivate chilli plentifully in their lands, sources added.
