Overseas workers are going to get insurance services soon to remain safe from unexpected risks at home and abroad.
Revealing the information, Expatriates' welfare and overseas employment minister Nurul Islam BSc has said formulation of a policy over the matter is now at final stage.
"It is one of the main commitments of the government to introduce insurance for ensuring a safe and sustainable system for migrant workers and is now at the final stage," said the minister.
The minister made the remarks while speaking at a workshop.
The ministry is finalising the policy following directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Expatriates' welfare and overseas employment secretary Dr Namita Halder said Wage Earners' Welfare Board law will be passed by the parliament soon.
According to BSS, ILO's Rahnuma Salam Khan, Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) secretary general Ruhul Amin Swapan and representatives of Bangladesh Insurance Association, Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) and Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training took part in the discussion.
