The government is set to take up a project to construct 54 chemical warehouses at Kadamtoli in Shyampur for temporarily relocating chemical depots from Old Dhaka.
The approval for the project came up at the weekly meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) held at the NEC Bhaban with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
As per agency reports, ECNEC approved a total of seven projects involving an estimated cost of Tk 101.2 billion including the Tk 794.2 million warehouse relocation project in the day’s meeting.
The committee also cleared the first revision of BSCIC Chemical Industrial Park, Munshiganj Project of around Tk 16.16 billion for relocating the Old Dhaka chemical industries and warehouses to an environment-friendly place.
Planning Minister MA Mannan revealed the information to reporters after the meeting.
Of the total cost for the projects, Tk 44.06 billion will come from the national exchequer, while Tk 4.90 billion will come from ECNEC fund and the rest of Tk 52.20 billion from project assistance, said he.
Of the seven projects, three are new while the four are revised ones, added he.
The minister said Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will implement the temporary chemical warehouse relocation project of Tk 794.2 million by June 2020.
Under the project, 54 warehouses, two three-storey offices, one office building for BCIC, one mosque, one overhead water tank with the capacity of 100,000 gallons and one underground water tank with the same capacity will be constructed there.
Two effluent treatment plants (ETPs) will also be installed there, said the minister.
