The National Board of Revenue (NBR) received over Tk 42.81 billion (4,281.32 crore) as income tax until November 30, 2017, up by 28.37 per cent over the corresponding time of 2016.
A total of 15,56,616 tax returns were submitted until November 30, the last date for submission of returns for the individual taxpayers, said an NBR statement.
The number of income tax returns submitted until November 30 this year is around 36 per cent higher than that of the same time last year, it mentioned.
On the other hand, some 2,79,626 individuals have applied to the revenue board, seeking additional time beyond the deadline for submission of their tax returns, it added.
NBR arranged a week-long Income Tax Fair from November 01, and an Income Tax Week from November 24 across the country to provide various services to the taxpayers, aiming to help boost the government's revenue income.
The revenue board received income tax to the tune of over Tk 8.75 billion, as a total of 6,60,362 tax returns were submitted during the Income Tax Week.
On the other hand, the revenue authority also mobilised income tax amounting to over Tk 22.17 billion during the Income Tax Fair, according to NBR.
The number of e-TIN (taxpayers identification number), issued by NBR, crossed 3.23 million until November 30, the statement also mentioned.
