Inflation slightly declines in December

The general point-to-point inflation rate came down by 0.23 percentage point to 5.29 per cent in December last year.

Planning Minister MA Mannan gave the information while briefing reporters after weekly ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Tuesday. ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting virtually from Ganabhaban.

The general point to point inflation rate was 5.52 per cent in November, 2020, reports BSS.

The BBS data showed that the food inflation declined to 5.34 per cent in December from 5.73 per cent in the previous month. However, non-food inflation rate increased slightly to 5.21 per cent last month from 5.19 percent in November.

The general inflation rate declined to 5.28 per cent in the last month from 5.55 per cent in November in the rural areas.

In the urban areas, the general inflation rate declined to 5.31 per cent in December from 5.47 per cent in November.

The point-to-point national wage index witnessed an uptrend with 6.15 per cent in December against 6.10 per cent in November 2020.
