ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman called on former UN secretary-general and Chairman of the Global Commission on Adaptation Dr Ban Ki-moon during his recent visit to Dhaka.
ICC Bangladesh President briefed him regarding the activities of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) globally and also the activities of ICC Bangladesh.
Mr Rahman thanked Dr Ban Ki-moon for taking the initiative for ICC, the only private sector non-sovereign organisation, to get Permanent Observer Status by the General Assembly in December 2016.
Dr Ban Ki-moon thanked Mr Rahman and the members of the Board for meeting him.
He praised the role of ICC in working with UN systems for achieving 2030 Agenda.
Moreover, he cautioned about the global effect of climate change and hoped that the world leaders will make all-out efforts in tackling global emission.
Ki-moon also praised the Bangladesh for achieving more than 8.0 per cent GDP and mentioned that Bangladesh is being considered as the role model for other developing economies in achieving sustainable development.
Mr Rahman briefed Dr Ban Ki-moon regarding forthcoming The Asia Pacific Conference on Financing inclusive and Sustainable Development in Dhaka during 10-12 December in order to celebrate ICC's Global Centenary and Silver Jubilee of ICC Bangladesh.
The conference is organised by ICC Bangladesh in association with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Asian Development Bank (ADB), The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) under the patronage of the Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh.
ICC Bangladesh delegation included Ms Rokia Afzal Rahman, vice president, ICC Bangladesh; ICCB executive board members Aftab ul Islam, AK Azad, Md Fazlul Hoque and Mir Nasir Hossain; MCCI President Barrister Ms Nihad Kabir, President of Korean EPZ (KEPZ) Corporation (BD) Ambassador Jahangir Saadat, and Mr Ataur Rahman, secretary general, ICC Bangladesh.
