The government expenditure as fertiliser subsidy will fuel up by nearly by four times to Tk 280 billion this financial year (FY22), amid an unusual hike in the prices of the inputs in the global market, said the agriculture minister on Saturday.
Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque also stated that the total farm subsidy was Tk 77 billion in FY 21.
He said out of the cost, Tk 190 billion has so far been managed while another Tk 90 billion will be needed within upcoming June.
Dr Razzaque said an unusual price hike of global fertiliser and fuel pushed up the subsidy costs.
He said a hike in shipping and transport costs have also been playing a crucial role for higher input costs.
"But the subsidy will be continued to provide farmers necessary inputs in previous rates to keep remain the production growth", said the minister while addressing a shadow parliamentary debate.
The Debate for Democracy organised the shadow parliament titled ‘The government's appropriate initiatives to ensure safe food', held at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) conference hall in the city.
