Beijing will offer 10,000 urban jobs in the public service sector to farmers living in the suburbs this year, according to the city's rural affairs commission.
The measure is aimed at accommodating idle rural labour, as Beijing has more than 500,000 farmers, according to a spokesperson with the commission.
The vacancies, which cover areas including public transportation, environmental sanitation, and gardening, will target farmers who are willing to work urban jobs, reports Xinhua.
The local government will offer vocational training to farmers, 80 per cent of whom have never attended senior high school.
