Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Monday said the country can attain the export target of $51 billion by making quality products and their diversification.
He said it while addressing the closing ceremony of Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) as the chief guest at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center, the permanent venue of the fair at Purbachal.
Mr Tipu referred to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's call to the businesses to produce more for boosting exports, reports UNB.
FBCCI President Md Jasim Uddin and Golam Dostagir MP were present at the ceremony as the special guests, while Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh presided over the function.
The 26th edition of DITF got $16 billion export order.
Besides, around Tk 400 million was sold in the fair this year and the government earned Tk 15 million revenue as tax VAT in this fair.
The month-long 26th DITF was inaugurated by the prime minister virtually from her office on January 1.
This year the commerce ministry did not extend the time for the fair due to rising Covid-19 infections across the country.
The trade fair was not held last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The number of stalls at this year's fair was half that of other years. There were 23 pavilions, 27 mini pavilions, 162 stalls and 15 food stalls of different categories. The stalls at the Agargaon fair were more than double this year.
