Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Friday urged private sector entrepreneurs to add-on to the government's efforts to build a self-sufficient economy.
The minister said it while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the month-long Bangladesh International Trade and Export Fair-2017 (BITEF-2017).
Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CMCCI) organised the fair at Halishahar Garibe Newaz School field, says a BSS report.
The commerce minister said despite many limitations, Bangladesh made significant advancements in export earning and health, agriculture and education sectors in the last five years.
Private sector can supplement the government’s effort to enhance Bangladesh’s economic growth.
With CMCCI President Khalilur Rahman in the chair, the inaugural function was addressed, among others, by former minister Dr Afsarul Ameen, MP, Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury, MP, Fair Committee Chairman Anisurzzaman Bhuiyan and A K M Mahbub Chowdhury.
Organisers said over 200 stalls, including 10 mega pavilions, eight medium pavilions and 18 standard pavilions and eight banks and insurance outlets have been set up at the fair.
The fair will remain open for visitors from 10am to 10 pm every day.
