ECNEC approves six projects worth Tk 70.19 billion

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved six projects involving an estimated cost of Tk 70.19 billion.

After the ECNEC meeting on Tuesday, Planning Minister MA Mannan told a news briefing that out of the six projects five are fresh ones.

Out of a total Tk 70.19 billion, Tk 43.63 billion will be mobilised from the government’s fund while Tk 2.70 billion from a concerned organisation’s fund and Tk 23.86 billion from external sources as foreign debt, the planning minister said.

The approval came from the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC Conference Room. The meeting was presided over by ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through a virtual platform from Ganabhaban, reports UNB.

Out of the six projects, the first revision of the Ghorasal Polash Urea Fertilizer Project was approved during Tuesday’s ECNEC meeting. The meeting approved a proposal to increase the project cost from Tk 104.61 billion to Tk 155.00 billion and to extend the project deadline to June 2024 from June 2022.

The five other approved projects are the ‘Recovering and Restoration of Canals and Creation of Aesthetic Environment’ project for developing four canals under Dhaka South city at a cost of Tk 8.99 billion; ‘Simanto Hostel Complex Bhaban Construction’ (in Chattogram) at a cost of Tk 591.4 million; ‘Improving the reliability and safety on National Highways Corridors of Bangladesh by Introduction of Intelligent Transport System (ITS)’ (in Keraniganj and Srinagar Upazilas of Munshiganj) at Tk 1.22 billion; ‘Upgrading the road from Ghonapara to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's mausoleum (including Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Bridge approach) to proper standard and width’ at Tk 3.47 billion; and ‘River bank protection to prevent Padma River erosion in Bhedarganj Upazila of Shariatpur District’ at a cost of Tk 5.52 billion.
