Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will collect tax from all the 26 sectors, instead of the present nine, to increase the revenue income of the corporation without increasing tax burden on citizens.
Two standing committees on finance and establishment were formed on Tuesday empowering them to recommend action against any official on charge of corruption or negligence of duty along with regular duties.
Besides, all the bills of the contractors will be released with the sign of the councillors.
These were decided during the first meeting of the second council of the corporation with newly elected DSCC Mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh in the chair.
The board meeting was held at the Mayor Hanif Auditorium of the Nagar Bhaban in the city.
"As per the City Corporation Act, there are 26 sectors for earning revenue. But DSCC collected tax from only nine sectors. From now on, DSCC will collect tax from all the sources," the Mayor said.
The mayor once again warned that stern action will be taken immediately against the officials upon recommendation of the standing committee.
Mayor Taposh said the councillors will be involved in every kind of works of the corporation and decision making process for the benefit of the citizens.
"From now on the door of this corporation is open for you. You can meet me anytime," he said.
The mayor called for support of the councillors in combating mosquito menace, waste management, removal of water-logging, roads development and freeing spaces from illegal occupation.
He announced that the councillors will prepare ward budget. The city corporation budget will be prepared in light of those budgets.
In the board meeting, important decisions were taken with regard to involving councillors with the development works directly.
"From now on the board meeting will be held on the first week of each month. The councillors can discuss their issues once in a week which will be fixed later," said Taposh.
