Direct green finance makes up only 5.88 per cent of the green finance of the banks and financial institutions (FIs) in the country, according to the latest review report of the central bank.
The latest Quarterly Review Report on Green Banking Activities unveiled the green financing status up to the end of the first quarter of the current fiscal year (FY18).
It showed that the value of total green finance stood at Tk 139.47 billion at the end of September 2017. Of the amount, only Tk 8.19 billion was disbursed as direct green finance while the rest Tk 131.27 billion was indirect green finance.
Some 44 banks out of 57 and 14 FIs out of 33 have had exposure in green finance, also known as environmental friendly financing.
Of the total direct green finance, Tk 7.58 billion was disbursed by the banks and the rest amount (Tk 0.61 billion) by the FIs.
In a similar vein, Tk 1.82 billion of the indirect green finance was channelled through the financial institutions while the rest amount worth Tk 129.45 billion was through the banks.
