After declining for the last six year, the ratio of consumption to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is now set to rebound in the current fiscal year.
Provisional estimation, released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), showed that the consumption-GDP ratio may reach 76.39 per cent in FY18, which was 74.67 per cent in FY17.
It also estimated that the value of total consumption for the current fiscal year is around Tk 18 trillion in the current fiscal year, which was Tk 14.75 trillion in the previous fiscal year.
The BBS, however, released only the value in market price. It is yet to release the value of consumption, investment and expenditure in constant price.
Both the ratios of public and private consumptions show an upward trend in the current fiscal year.
Private consumption-GDP ratio increased to 69.93 per cent in the current fiscal year from 68.67 per cent in FY17.
The ratio of general government consumption to GDP also increased to 6.46 per cent from 6.00 per cent during the period under review.
