In the midst of the pandemic, consumption spending at the current price stood at Tk 22.83 trillion in the last fiscal year (FY21), according to the provisional estimation of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The ratio of current consumption in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) in the last fiscal year, however, came down to 75.83 per cent, which was 76.23 per cent in FY20.
GDP at market price is estimated at Tk 30.11 trillion in the last fiscal year.
BBS estimate also showed that private consumption spending was Tk 20.97 trillion in the last fiscal year which is 69.65 per cent of GDP in the last fiscal year.
At the same time, general government consumption was estimated at Tk 1.86 trillion which is 6.18 per cent GDP in FY21.
Total consumption at constant market price is estimated at Tk 8.34 trillion in the last fiscal year which was Tk 7.93 trillion in FY20 recording a 5.10 per cent increase annually.
