Tk 1.0b earmarked for startups

As the government wants to use the full potential of demographic dividend, an amount of Tk 1.0 billion has been earmarked in the proposed national budget for fiscal 2019-20 as startup capital to promote all types of startup enterprises.

While presenting the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2019-20 in parliament, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday said, “We’ll have to exploit the full potential of the demographic dividend that is available for Bangladesh. Tk 1.0 billion will be allocated in the coming budget to provide startup capital to promote all types of startup enterprises among youth.”

Acting under the slogan of 'Power of Youth: Prosperity for Bangladesh', the minister said the government is taking necessary steps to transform younger generation, one-third of the total population in the country, into well-organised, disciplined and productive forces, reports UNB.

“To generate jobs for the unemployed youths and create self-employment opportunity, skill development trainings in different subjects are being provided to youths through 111 formal training centres across the country, and 498 training centres at the upazila level.

Kamal hoped that a widespread employment opportunity will be created in economic zones.
