CCCI, CMCCI call for cut in VAT

Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CMCCI) welcomed the budget for the next fiscal year and termed it pro-development.

Mahabubul Alam, president of CCCI, said, "The budget of Sheikh Hasina government is a dream towards development of the country."

He said, "CCCI demanded steps on the traffic congestion here in the port city. The government is constructing the flyovers and taking other steps in this regard."

He said, "Allocation for development of Chattogram port should be increased as well as the imposed VAT should be reduced."

He expressed the hope that the process of development of Chattogram would be aided by this budget.

On the other hand, president of CMCCI Khalilur Rahman also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal for placing the pro-development budget.

He said, "The current budget is not only a pro-development budget, but also a pro-people budget."

He said, "The present budget's outlay is Tk 5.23 trillion while the first budget of Bangladesh was worth Tk 7.86 billion only. The big budget of the country proves that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working for progress and development of the country."

He also expressed the hope that the GDP would increase more than 8.5 per cent in the current fiscal year. If the government can earn more remittance, taxes and foreign aid, the budget will be implemented fully."

Khalilur Rahman said, "Implementation of the current budget may help the development process in Bangladesh. We need infrastructural development in Chattogram, and development of Chattogram sea port for expanding our trade. I hope that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take special steps in this regard."

He also said Chattogram needs special allocation for development of the country's economy.
