BRAC Bank has collaborated with Bidyanondo Foundation for providing food to the community that have been affected worst by COVID-19.
The bank has contributed Tk 5.0 million for this purpose. Through this effort, Bidyanondo Foundation, a non-profit social welfare organization, will provide food to around 10,500 families in remote locations across the country, said a press statement Wednesday. A family of five will get food supply for at least 10 days through this initiative, it said. As COVID-19 continues to impact food access, Bidyanondo Foundation, supported by Bangladesh’s defense force in distribution, has succeeded to provide food supply to communities across the country who had been languishing due to lack of food since nation-wide shut down. Their food packages include basic food items such as rice, pulses, gram, oil, flour etc.
Selim R. F. Hussain, the Managing Director and CEO of the Bank said, “We are greatly inspired by the commendable work of Bidyanondo Foundation, especially under the current scenario. People across all walks of life deserve support during this difficult time. That is why BRAC Bank is proud to join hands with organizations like Bidyanondo Foundation. With the support of such community partners, we will get through this together.” Expressing his gratitude, Bidyanondo Foundation founder and Chairman Kishor Kumar Das said, “This gives a message of hope that goes beyond the financial contribution made. We are grateful to BRAC Bank for their generous support. With kindness spreading across the country through corporate, the way BRAC Bank has done, I believe no one will have to starve to death in this country”. In a previous effort, BRAC Bank employees raised a fund from their April salary to support nearly 11,500 families with 2 weeks food supply. The money was gifted to BRAC’s emergency food assistance fund.
"BRAC Bank is continuing to monitor the status of COVID-19 and will make necessary updates to its response efforts as needed," said a statement.
