BAPEX starts drilling new gas well in Bhola

Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) started the drilling of new gas well in Bhola on Saturday.

The new gas well named Bhola North 1 is in the district's Sadar upazil.

Nazimuddin Chowdhury, secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Division of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry inaugurated the drilling work.

During inauguration, Nazimuddin said BAPEX will drill a total of 28 exploratory wells in current fiscal year and nine of these have already drilled.

In Bhola, four exploratory gas wells will be drilled, he said.

Meanwhile, BAPEX has discovered a new gas field at Shahbazpur in Bhola district where some 700 billion cubic feet of gas might be reserved, as per report on UNB news agency.

"We are hopeful of getting huge gas reserve in the newly drilled gas well," said the secretary.
