Country’s merchandise trade deficit with the rest of the world jumped by 91 per cent in the first half (H1) of the current fiscal year (FY18).
Statistics released by Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday showed that trade deficit stood at US$8.62 billion in July-December period of the current fiscal year.
The trade gap was $4.51 billion during the same period of FY17.
The central bank statistics also revealed that the current account deficit jumped by almost eight times during the period under review.
Current account deficit stood at $4.76 billion in July-December period of the current fiscal year which was $0.54 billion in the same period of the past fiscal year.
