There is a total deficit of Tk 94.14 billion in seven banks, four government and three private, in the country.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith said it at the parliament on Monday while responding to a starred question from independent MP Md Abdul Matin (Maulvibazar-2).
Among the 57 banks in the country, four state-owned - Sonali Bank, Rupali Bank, Janata Bank and Basic Bank- are facing a capital crisis of Tk 76.26 billion, as per the data collected on September 30, 2017.
Sonali Bank has a crisis of Tk 31.40 billion, Basic Bank Tk 25.23 billion, Janata Bank Tk 12.73 billion and Rupali Bank Tk 6.90 billion, reports UNB.
The three private banks - Bangladesh Commerce Bank, Farmers Bank and ICB Bank- have a capital deficit of Tk 17.91 billion.
Among the private banks, the capital deficit Bangladesh Commerce Bank is Tk 14.85 billion, while Tk 2.31 billion in Bangladesh Commerce Bank and Tk 747.6 million in the Farmers Bank.
