The third annual economists’ conference of the South Asian Network on Economic Modelling (SANEM) will kick off on Saturday morning in Dhaka.
The theme of the two-day event is: ‘Leave no one behind in South Asia.’ The conference will take place at the BRAC Centre Inn in the capital city.
Eminent economists from Bangladesh as well as other countries of South Asia will attend the conference. Young and rising economists and analysts of the country will also participate.
They will discuss on growth and productivity, investment and capital Market, strong institution & good governance, social inclusion, health & nutrition, gender equality & education, climate change, migration and adaptation and private sector engagement for SDG.
A South Asian panel discussion in memory of late Dr Saman Kelegama will be held at the event on Saturday. Title of the session is: Institutions, Governance and Trade in the Context of Emerging Global and Regional Challenges.
Moreover, Dr Martin Rama, chief economist of The World Bank in South Asia, will deliver a special lecture titled Growth Out of the Blue: Nightlight and Economic Activity.
On Sunday, Dr Selim Jahan, director of human development report office of UNDP will deliver another special lecture on ‘Human Development for Everyone.’
Dr Selim Raihan, executive director of SANEM and also a professor of economics in the University of Dhaka, said, “The objective of the conference is to promote quality economic research among academicians, researchers, policy advocates, students and young aspiring economists.”
“We also want to connect economists from every corner of the country to bring them on a common platform for knowledge sharing,” he added.
