The National VAT (value added tax) Day will be observed on Saturday while the National VAT Week on December 10 to 15 across the country in a befitting manner.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has chalked out various programmes to mark the National VAT Day and VAT Week to be observed with the slogan "Unnoyoner VAT Niti, VAT Diye Gorbo Jati".
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the eve of the National VAT Day and VAT Week, wishing all programmes of the day and week a success.
In his message, the President greeted traders, consumers and all involved in revenue collection marking the day.
Abdul Hamid mentioned that most of the funds for implementing state expenditure and development projects come from VAT, the largest source of domestic revenue.
The president underscored the need for ensuring a favourable environment of mutual trust, confidence and cooperation among all levels of revenue officials and businessmen.
The head of the state called upon all including businessmen, taxpayers, and consumers to come forward to pay the revenue to speed up the process of revenue collection in the country.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: "We are implementing the Second Perspective Plan to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh by 2041 emphasising building an enriched revenue fund (Vhandar)."
The premier said that the present government is working tirelessly to develop IT-based, efficient, modern and people-friendly revenue administration through necessary professional training.
She called upon all to fulfil their responsibilities with honesty, concentration and devotion to build the 'Sonar Bangladesh' as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The premier wished all the programmes undertaken on the occasion of 'VAT Day and VAT Week, 2022' a success.
