Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Saturday said the government is expecting the country's economic growth will be over 7.5 per cent in the current fiscal year.
The minister also said the economic growth target for the fiscal 2018-19 will be set at 7.8 per cent, according to a PID handout.
The finance minister came up with the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of Meghna Economic Zone, Meghna Industrial Economic Zone and eight industrial units of Meghna Group in Narayanganj on Saturday.
Muhith said that basic industries must be established. "Most of the industries that were set up in the past were linkage establishments."
Now, some basic industrial units are being set up in the country, he added.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Railways Minister Mujibul Haque were also present at the ceremony as special guests, reports UNB.
Meghna Group Chairman Mostafa Kamal presided over the programme while FBCCI president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, Principal Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs in the Prime Minister's Office Md Abdul Kalam Azad, former BGMEA President Atiqul Islam, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam, ICC-B President Mahbubur Rahman and executive chairman of Economic Zones Authority Paban Chowdhury, among others, spoke at the occasion.
