The five-day Labour Welfare Conference 2018 started at CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday.
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc inaugurated the event, scheduled to conclude on February 8.
A total of 44 officials from labour welfare wings from 26 foreign missions are participating in the conference.
In his inaugural speech, the minister said it is necessary to ensure quality service for all expatriate workers.
"We also have to make sure that no expatriate worker returns without having the service," Nurul Islam said, according to UNB.
The minister informed that around 12 million Bangladeshi workers are employed in 165 foreign countries.
"Every year more than 2 million people enter the labour market where the ministry has managed to ensure a proper immigration management," he said.
Secretary of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Dr. Nomita Halder presided over the meeting.
Ministry's Additional Secretary Md Aminul lslam, Managing Director (Additional Secretary) of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited Maran Kumar Chakraborty, Director General (Additional Secretary) of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training Md Salim Reza and Director General (Additional Secretary) of Wage Earners' Welfare Board Gazi Mohammad Julhash were also present there.
