December inflation drops to 5.83pc

The point-to-point inflation rate in December dropped to 5.83 per cent – thereby recording a slight decrease over November, according to the latest official data.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic (BBS) data showed that the country’s inflation rate marked a slender fall by 0.08 percentage points in the last month compared to 5.91 per cent in the previous month (November).

According to the BBS data unveiled on Tuesday, the point-to-point inflation in December 2016 was recorded lower at 5.03 per cent.

Emerging from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting in Dhaka, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal unveiled the quarterly inflation data.

He told reporters that the inflation in the second quarter (October-December) period of the current financial year (FY) 2017-18 was recorded at 5.93 per cent.

In the previous quarter (July-September) of the current FY2018, the inflation was recorded at 5.86 per cent.
