FDI jumps by 37.20pc in FY22

The net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country again crossed the US$3.0 billion level, after two years, in the last fiscal year (FY22).

The latest statistics, released by the central bank on Thursday, showed that net FDI stood at around $3.44 billion in FY22, registering around 37.20 per cent growth in comparison to FY21, when the amount was $2.50 billion.

In FY20, the net inflow of FDI was recorded at $2.37 billion due to Covid-19 pandemic. In the previous year, FY19 to be exact, the net inflow of FDI reached the $3.89 billion mark, the highest amount in a year in the history of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Bank statistics also showed that gross inflow of FDI in the last fiscal year was $4.64 billion while the disinvestment was recorded at $1.19 billion.

Again, the amount of reinvested earnings of the multinational entities in Bangladesh was $2.04 billion in the FY22 which is the major component of net FDI in the year under review. The rest amount came from equity or fresh investment ($1.34 billion) while intra-company loans were negligible ($48 million).
