ECNEC approves nine projects worth Tk 164.33 billion

It clears Tk 86.9 billion project to bring 10 million people under electricity coverage

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved nine projects involving an estimated cost of Tk 164.33 billion.

Among the nine projects, it approved a Tk 86.90 billion project to bring some 10 million people under the electricity coverage across the country.

The approval came from the 2nd ECNEC meeting of the current government, held at the NEC conference room in Dhaka on Tuesday with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said a total of nine projects involving Tk 164.33 billion were approved in the meeting.

Of the cost, Tk 136.20 billion will come from government fund, while Tk 2.89 billion from the own funds of the organisations concerned and the rest Tk 25.27 billion as 'foreign loans', he said.

In terms of the cost, the biggest project is installation of 195 million Client Connections through Extension of Rural Electrification (1st revised) Project involving Tk 86.90 billion.

About the project, the minister said some 10.0 million people will come under the electricity coverage across the country as some 2.0 million new connections will be installed under the project.

Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board under the Power Division will implement the project by June 2020.
